Bariatric surgery (also known as metabolic surgery or weight loss surgery) is a surgical procedure used to manage obesity and obesity-related conditions. Long term weight loss with bariatric surgery may be achieved through alteration of gut hormones, physical reduction of stomach size (stomach reduction surgery), reduction of nutrient absorption, or a combination of these. Standard of care procedures include Gastric Sleeve, Roux en-Y Bypass, and Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, from which weight loss is largely achieved by altering gut hormone levels responsible for hunger and satiety, leading to a new hormonal weight set point.
The Gastric Sleeve

Our Golden procedure
"The Sleeve" is performed by removing approximately 75% of the stomach. The remaining stomach is a tubular pouch that resembles a banana. This enables less food consumption, which in return means less calorie intake.

The greater impact is the effect the surgery has on GUT hormones. This will impact numerous factors including hunger, satiety, and blood sugar control.

Roux en Y Gastric Bypass
The Gold Standard
The gastric bypass works by several mechanisms. Similar to most bariatric procedures, the newly created stomach pouch is considerably smaller and facilitates significantly smaller meals. The benefit of this translates into less calories consumed.

Most importantly, the rerouting of the food stream produces changes in gut hormones that promote satiety, suppress hunger, and reverse one of the primary mechanisms by which obesity induces type 2 diabetes.

THE MINI GASTRIC BYPASS
Mini gastric bypass surgery is a short and more relatively simple procedure than the Roux n Y, and has been shown by the available research to have lower risks. This method also results in good short and long-term weight loss.
The actual length of intestine bypassed will be determined by your surgeon. This decision will be based on multiple factors including your height, weight, your weight loss expectations, and a careful review of the risks and benefits of a Shorter vs. Longer Bypass.
